The international INTERFILM Jury, composed of three members coming from Denmark, Germany and Latvia, has decided to give the INTERFILM Award to the following films:

INTERFILM Jury Prize for a film in the International Competition:

Man Push Cart (Cilveks Stumj Ratus)
directed by Ramin Bahrani (USA 2005)

“Man Push Cart” is about the strength of the weak. The director Ramin Bahrani skillfully juxtaposes New York as a symbol of success and wealth with the underprivileged street vender Ahmad who with his life dares to challenge the popular notion that only the rich can be strong.

INTERFILM Jury Prize for a documentary in the Baltic Competition (ex aequo):

Ex Amen (Eks Amens)
directed by Inese Klava (Latvia, 2005);

In the absence of faith death can become just a sort of stage play, while avoiding taking the sides the director Inese Klava underscores the importance of faith in a sincere attitude towards dying.

Countdown (Tas, kura nebija)
directed by Audrius Stonys (Lithuania, 2004);

Audrius Stonys in his moving documentary about film director Augustinas Baltrusaitis presents us a saga about the strength of human spirit. The spotlight is on maintaining God given human dignity despite being victimized by a system.

The INTERFILM award aims at promoting movies that distinguish themselves not only by their artistic merit, but also by their exploration of the ethical, social and spiritual values that make life human.
