Cinema as an Instrument of Memory and Enlightenment

In 2003 Ulrich Gregor, former director of the International Forum of Young Cinema at the Berlinale, was honoured with the German Film Award of Merit. In his word of thanks, Gregor pointed out that he regards film as an "instrument of memory and enlightenment". We publish Gregor's speech which was cut off the tv-transmission of the German Film Prize ceremony.
